Quick Guide to Creating a New Integration

Overview

This guide explains how to create a new integration between AME and your shelter software, allowing for the automatic import of pet records into the AME system.

 

Start the Integration

From the Integration page, click the “Add new” button. 

 

Select Shelter Software

In the Authentication screen, select your shelter software from the dropdown list. 

Provide Authentication Details

Depending on the selected platform, you’ll be prompted to enter specific credentials:

Set Up Connections Between Shelter and Stores

After authentication, you will see the following screen, where you have to choose the store:

 

After choosing the store, click on Add New Connection. The system will display a modal where you can select an available option.

 

Match each shelter location to a store, click Confirm Location, and then Add new connection if needed.

 

For ShelterBuddy, you will be able to select the hierarchy level:

Integration Confirmation

You will see a summary of all connected stores and their status.

 

When Will Pets Appear?

Pets are typically synced within 5 minutes after setup is completed, but may take up to 1 hour to appear.

 

What Data is Imported?

Only pet data is imported. No other information from the shelter software is integrated.

Imported fields:

  • Pet ID
  • Pet name
  • Type
  • Breed / Mixed breed
  • Date of birth
  • Sex
  • Spayed / Neutered status
  • Adoption fee

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: What shelter software platforms are supported?

Currently, AME supports the following platforms:

  • ShelterBuddy
  • ShelterLuv
  • PetPoint
  • Chameleon (via RSS feed)

Q2: What happens if I enter invalid credentials?

If the credentials are incorrect or invalid, the system will not allow you to proceed to the store connection step.

If the password is changed in the shelter software after integration, you’ll need to update the credentials in AME to continue syncing pets.

 

Q3: Why are no pets appearing after I complete the setup?

There are a few possible reasons:

  • Pets typically appear within 5 minutes after setup, but may take up to 1 hour to appear.
  • Invalid or outdated credentials prevent syncing — make sure your login is correct.
  • No animals exist under the selected location or hierarchy in your shelter software.
  • The selected location isn’t connected to a store.

Q4: Can I connect one shelter to multiple stores?

Yes, a shelter can be integrated with all available PetSmart stores assigned to it.

However, each PetSmart store must be listed as a separate location in your shelter software (SMS). This means that each location in the software can only be linked to one PetSmart store in AME.

This ensures that animals are not duplicated across multiple stores.

Q5: How can I fix or update integration credentials?

Go to the Integration menu → Authentication tab → click Edit credentials.

You can re-enter or correct your login information there.

 

Q6: Does AME update any data in my shelter software?

No. AME is a read-only integration — it pulls animal records for adoption processing but does not modify any data in the shelter system.
